Indian athletes achieved remarkable success in the 2025 Deaflympics held in Tokyo, Japan, securing a total of 20 medals. India finished sixth on the medal tally with 9 gold, 7 silver, and 4 bronze medals. The Indian shooting contingent was particularly dominant, contributing 16 medals out of the total, including 7 golds. Key Indian gold medalists include Sumit Dahiya in wrestling, Diksha Dagar in women’s individual golf, and Dhanush Srikanth and Abhinav Deshwal in shooting events. Shooters Abhinav Deshwal and Pranjali Prashant Dhumal also won gold in the 10m Air Pistol mixed team event. Abhinav Deshwal won gold in men’s 25m sports pistol shooting and also gold in the mixed 10m air pistol event alongside Pranjali Dhumal.

Mahit Sandhu shone in women’s shooting events with multiple medals, including gold in 50m rifle 3 positions.The shooters’ contingent won 7 gold, 6 silver, and 3 bronze medals, largely contributing to India’s overall success�����.

Overall Participation and Impact India sent its largest-ever contingent with 73 athletes across 11 sports disciplines, supported by 38 staff members. The excellent medal tally signifies a historic achievement and progress for Indian deaf athletes, showing strong potential in shooting and wrestling as key sports disciplines.
