Blindness is the condition of partial or total loss of vision. It can range from low vision (significant visual impairment even with corrective lenses) to complete blindness (no perception of light).

Types of blindness:

  1. Partial blindness – Limited vision, often called “low vision.”
  2. Total blindness – Complete lack of sight, including no light perception.

Common causes:

  • Cataracts
  • Glaucoma
  • Diabetic retinopathy
  • Age-related macular degeneration
  • Injury or trauma
  • Genetic conditions

Blindness may be congenital (from birth) or acquired later in life due to disease, injury, or age-related changes.
