In India, two key languages play a major role in making education more accessible for school children:

1. Hindi – The most widely spoken Indian language

  • Used in central and northern states like Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, Rajasthan, and others.
  • Many government schools use Hindi as the medium of instruction.
  • Helps children in rural and semi-urban areas understand concepts in their native or regional tongue.

2. English – A national and global bridge language

  • Commonly used in private and urban schools.
  • English-medium education provides access to modern knowledge, global content, and competitive exams.
  • It is important for higher education, jobs, and international opportunities.

Why these two matter:

  • Bilingual education (Hindi + English or local language + English) helps bridge regional understanding and future readiness.
  • The NEP 2020 (National Education Policy) promotes learning in the mother tongue or regional language until at least Grade 5, while also emphasizing the importance of English proficiency.

Quote of the week

"People ask me what I do in the winter when there's no baseball. I'll tell you what I do. I stare out the window and wait for spring."
