In India, two key languages play a major role in making education more accessible for school children:
1. Hindi – The most widely spoken Indian language
- Used in central and northern states like Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, Rajasthan, and others.
- Many government schools use Hindi as the medium of instruction.
- Helps children in rural and semi-urban areas understand concepts in their native or regional tongue.
2. English – A national and global bridge language
- Commonly used in private and urban schools.
- English-medium education provides access to modern knowledge, global content, and competitive exams.
- It is important for higher education, jobs, and international opportunities.
Why these two matter:
- Bilingual education (Hindi + English or local language + English) helps bridge regional understanding and future readiness.
- The NEP 2020 (National Education Policy) promotes learning in the mother tongue or regional language until at least Grade 5, while also emphasizing the importance of English proficiency.
