NB.1.8.1: First detected in Tamil Nadu in April 2025, this variant includes spike protein mutations A435S, V445H, and T478I, potentially increasing its infectiousness. LF.7: Identified in Gujarat in May 2025, LF.7 is under observation for its spread and impact. Despite these mutations, health experts indicate that the severity of illness caused by these subvariants remains low.

Bihar: Reported its first case in the current wave, a 31-year-old individual from Patna.
