India has made significant strides in developing open mobility networks. One notable example is the Kochi Open Mobility Network (KOMN), launched in 2021 by the Kochi Metropolitan Transport Authority (KMTA). KOMN is the world’s first open mobility network, enabled by the Beckn protocol, which allows for seamless integration of various transportation modes ¹.
Another initiative is the TVS Mobility Open Network Platform, launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in February 2024. This platform aims to link various stakeholders in the aftermarket ecosystem, including MSMEs, financial institutions, and vehicle manufacturers ².
Additionally, the Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC) has also been working towards creating an open and interoperable network for digital commerce, which includes mobility services. ONDC has already enabled mobility services in several cities across India ³.
These initiatives demonstrate India’s commitment to developing open and inclusive mobility networks, which can enhance the overall transportation experience for citizens.
