Former Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh passed away yesterday, December 26, 2024, at the age of 92. He was admitted to Delhi’s AIIMS after losing consciousness at his home, but unfortunately, he couldn’t be revived.¹
Manmohan Singh was a renowned economist and politician who served as India’s Prime Minister from 2004 to 2014. During his tenure, he implemented several significant economic reforms that transformed India’s economy.
Tributes have been pouring in from across the country, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi mourning the loss of Manmohan Singh, saying he made “extensive efforts to improve people’s lives”. Rahul Gandhi, who considered Manmohan Singh his mentor and guide, also condoled his passing, saying millions of Indians will remember him with utmost pride.
The Indian government has announced a seven-day national mourning period, and the national flag will be flown at half-mast at all locations where it is customarily displayed. Manmohan Singh’s last rites will be conducted on Saturday, December 28, with full state honors.
