The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), led by Arvind Kejriwal, has been governing Delhi since 2015. The party came to power after a landslide victory in the Delhi Legislative Assembly elections, winning 67 out of 70 seats. Since then, it has been re-elected twice, in 2015 and 2020, consolidating its position as a dominant political force in the state.Over the past decade, the AAP government has focused on several key areas, including:
1. Education: Significant reforms in government schools, including improved infrastructure, better teacher training, and innovative programs like “Happiness Curriculum” and “Deshbhakti Curriculum.”
2. Healthcare: Introduction of Mohalla Clinics (neighborhood clinics) to provide free primary healthcare and medicines to residents.
3. Electricity and Water: Subsidized electricity rates and free water up to a certain limit for households.
4. Public Transport: Free bus rides for women and increased investment in public transport infrastructure.
5. Environment: Initiatives like the Odd-Even traffic rule to combat pollution and large-scale plantation drives.
6. Welfare Programs: Focus on schemes for women, senior citizens, and underprivileged groups.
AAP’s governance style has been characterized by its focus on delivering welfare programs and targeting grassroots issues. However, it has also faced criticism for alleged populism and clashes with the central government over administrative control in Delhi.
